The Sauna Man
The Sauna Man is probably the best know and most talked about piece of street art in the Netherlands. It’s a figure that was placed above a steam channel of the Amsterdam metro system. After a few days, various people had alarmed the police, thinking it was a real man, and the man was removed. After half a year at lost & found it went to auction and was bought for some odd 50 euro’s by a few people, who replaced it the same night. The sauna man has since, due to a lot of media attention, quickly become an icon of the city. Tourists still get distracted, which is fun to see, yet the Amsterdam natives have adopted the saunaman as a local.
